Penllergaer Forest has some lovely walks available and is perfect for dogs. There are three main loops through the forest and neighbouring Tircoed Forest Village ranging from around 20 minutes to over an hour. The car park also has a few short trails available
Penllergaer Forest is managed by Natural Resources Wales, and we help manage the car park by opening the gate in the morning and closing it at night – we also litter pick the car park every few days during the summer months, and occasionally during the winter.
If you’ve found yourself locked in the car park, you can call us on 01792 823456 before 8.30pm in the evening and 0300 065 3000 outside of these times.
We keep our Facebook and Instagram pages up to date when Natural Resources Wales let us know the car park is going to be closed for Forestry management work.
Unfortunately there are no bins available in the forest so please take your litter home with you.
We voluntarily litter pick the car park every few days to keep it tidy for those of you visiting, however we prefer it when there’s nothing for us to pick up.
Unfortunately there are no toilets in the car park, however there are toilets available in both the nearby services and McDonald’s restaurant.
You may have read in the news that the car park is a known ‘dogging’, or ‘cottaging’ spot. Although true, the problem has been getting much better recently. Since installing CCTV at the entrance to the car park the problems have significantly reduced. If you see any suspicious behaviour, be sure to report it.
The What3Words for Penllergaer Forest Car Park is short.sticks.toward.
There are three main ‘loops’ you can walk through the forest starting from the car park, the first is roughly 15-25 minutes, the second 30-45 minutes and the third is around 50-70 minutes. Beware – the shortest can be a little boggy in the winter!
You can extend the loops by adding some of the additional trails on to the walk.
